The Foundation Level Mathematics Certificate and Foundation Level General Science Program are designed to help credential students pursuing a multi-subject teaching credential expand their knowledge in order to become elementary and middle school teachers.

About the Program

The Foundational Level Mathematics Certificate Program is designed to help students pursuing a multi-subject teaching credential who also passed Math CSET  I and II exams become eligible for the Foundational-Level Added Authorization in Mathematics certification.

The Added Authorization in Foundational Mathematics “extends” your teaching credential to allow you to teach middle school mathematics classes, a high demand area for school district employers. Also, upon completion of the program you will be awarded a CSUEB Certificate in Foundational Math.

Current credential students and current teachers can apply to the program in order to enhance their understanding of mathematics in K-8 levels.

Students applying to this program should be working toward or already have achieved a multiple subject teaching credential  or a Single Subject Credential in a non-mathematics subject area.

What You Need to Know

If you are interested in the program, check out the links below as well as the Fall 2015 Schedule for class listings. Participants in the program will take the two TED courses and four or five MATH courses. The math courses will help you learn the mathematics you need to teach middle school mathematics and to pass the Math CSET I and Math CSET II exams.  All courses will be offered in the evening and on a few Saturdays to accommodate students who work during the day.

Required Courses: TED 5390 and TED 5391

Required Tests: CSET I and Math CSET II

About the Program

CSUEB offers a sequence of classes designed for students interested in teaching middle school science or becoming K-5 science specialists.

Eligibility for the Program

Foundational Level Science Program

Program Candidate Criteria

Candidates for this program should have or plan to obtain their Multiple Subjects teaching credential or a Single Subject teaching credential in a subject other than science.

Students in this program will be well prepared to teach middle school science, with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning and real-world applications, will have completed the State-required Methods Courses and will have the content knowledge to pass the Science CSET I and II exams. Credentialed teachers who complete this program and pass the Science CSET I and II exams qualify for the Foundational-level Added Authorization in Science.
